Course in Nordic Folk Music “ The Dance in the Music and the Music in the Dance”

Focus on the dance: Experienced dancers 15-30 years of age kan apply via the form for participation.

Focus-group: Young people between the ages 15-30 who are interested in folkmusic and sure of their instrument.

Music students at conservatories from all genres, as well fully educated people with an interest in Nordic Folk Music.

Music over The Fjord invites young people on a music course in the days up to the festival.  We love dance… and wish to create a space where dance is the magic center in the nordic folk music. The course participants will strike up to dance under “Dansetræet”(The Dancing Tree) and in “Danseladen” (The Dancing Barn) under the festival. Talented professional musicians from the Nordic countries are the teachers of the courses. The target group are young people who are sure of their instruments, interested in folkmusic and from all over and from all music genres. It is a prerequisite that you participate in the whole course, Wednesday morning till Friday evening. It is required to sign up.

We are a festival, where everything is run by volunteers, as well as on economical and social responsibility. Anne Grete and Søren live on the property and are grateful that people take good care of each other as well as cleaning up after themselves. It is very appreciated if you help where you can. You as well as everyone else helps to create this magic atmosphere at the festival.

The course participants are divided into 3 groups:

Group 1: Conservatory students as well university students, people with finished degrees are also welcome.

Group 2:  People that are sure of their instruments, people from Skurup Folk Highschool, MGK, post highschool educations, as well as finished courses and the like.

Group 3: Experienced dancers aged 15-30. Thursday at 10-16:30.

 

The agreement:

  • The course is free of charge
  • You play a concert where you strike up to dance.
  • You help 3 hours under the festival or you help Sunday from 12:00.
  • You will get free entrance to the whole festival.
  • Free camping
  • FOOD: You are allowed to bring your own food and drink.(we have a fridge you can store your food in) (Drinks are not allowed in the fridge)
  • Group 1: Get dinner while you are here. (19:00 on Wednesday, 18:00 during the festival.)
  • Group 2: Get breakfast at 9:00, lunch/sandwich and dinner while you are here. (19:00 on Wednesday, 18:00 during the festival.) Same as the booked musicians.
  • Group 3: Dansers get lunch as well as dinner on Thursday , but not during the festival.

    Course Program:

    Group 1 MUSIC STUDENTS / GRADUATES 

    Teacher Arto Järvelä. As one of Finlands most talented folk musicians he has presentet finish culture in more than 40 countries. Arto demonstrates profound engagement and unusual skills as a musician, komposer and a multiinstrumentalist.

    If you have some kompositions of your own that you would like to incorporate in the workshop, please send the sheet music and if any a small link to the sound.

    Presentation: “The dance in the music and the music in the dance” and a presentation round.

    Everyone needs to be checked-in. Wristbands and food tickets will be given in Danseladen.

    Everyone will be divided into groups. Talk about melodies that can be a common repetoire. You will use the time creating music together, and not on learning tons of melodies.

    Workshop with Arto Järvelä.

    Outside the workshop you will practice your music, that you will play for your concert Friday evening in Danseladen.

    Friday August 7th

    You practice your music, that you will play for the concert that night with a dancing audience. The concert is at 20:00-20:45 in Danseladen.

    Sunday August 9th

    Cleaning party at 12:00 after the morning concert. Everyone who can and has time will help.

    Intimate concert at 16:00 in Bålhuset (Fire hut) where we empty the opened kegs and eat the famous Korshøj curry-pan. (Free)

    Group 2 FOLKMUSIC INTERESTED WHO ARE SURE OF THEIR INSTRUMENT – AGE 15-30.

    Teacher Louise Vangsgaard:  Louise is educated at the Center for Rhythm, Music and Movement, with song as main instrument, and has taken courses level 1-3 in Suzukiviolin. Louise is an aktiv folkmusician with focus on nordic and irish repertoire. She can be seen in the trio “Tradish” and the vokal ensemble “Kvinderåberne” Louise has toured the world with the bands Instinkt, Tradish and others.

    Saturday August 8th

    The festival continues, you are welcome on Dansetræets open stage, in smaller ensembles or all together.

    Sunday August 9th
